Climate Denier Meets Spherical Earth Denier
Hot Blobs, Cold Blobs, Biblical Downpours, and the Arctic: at AGU // Published on Jan 2, 2018
More AGU fun. Before 1990s: Arctic warming was 0.60 C per decade; Afterwards, it’s 1.67 C per decade. Consequences of heat imbalance include: Pacific Warm Blob (with a Ridiculously Resilient Ridge), Atlantic Cold Blob, extreme precipitation (torrential rains, floods, droughts, snow dumps) with bizarre storm intensities, tracks, durations and sizes. Certainly there is No-New-Normal. Only Massive Change.
Jet Streams, more Jet Streams, and even more Jet Streams: AGU Science // Published on Dec 31, 2017
I summarize new science presented at AGU on jet streams (also extratropical and high latitude storms, extreme weather, changing polar climates). Topics include anthropogenic climate change influence on jet stream waviness and persistence, double-peaked jets, and aerosol impacts; indirect jet stream paleo-records in Alaskan ice cores, jet stream shifts towards the equator, cause of heavier snowfalls on US east coast, warm Arctic/cold continents, stratospheric polar vortex to troposphere links, zonal versus meridional air flow tug-of-wars…
Me, with a Bunch of Climate Deniers
‘Why is North America colder than the Arctic? What can we expect as the Arctic continues to lose sea-ice and snow? Are we in a “climate emergency”? Can we do anything to stabilize climate? We’ll explore these questions and more with Paul Beckwith, Climate System Scientist.’
