Propaganda and Information Warfare Within Social Media // Published on Apr 5, 2018
A confluence of recent technologies are undermining planetary democracies, and negating our ability to act on climate change. The global proliferation of smart phones, individually associated with a unique identifier (IP address), and thus geographical region, in conjunction with social media information on the hearts and minds of users, data mined and sold to corporations with nefarious intentions has hijacked the zeitgeist of individuals, thus regions and voting blocks and countries and entire societies by aggregating the sum-total of information. Dark times indeed.

Hi Paul, witnessing is hard. Even though it is an offering Of service the grief is hard, and sometimes doesn’t let up. It can isolate too. But you have family, friends, people you mentor, the world of chess, cats and a guitar. I hope you play some lead guitar too. Have been watching this since I was a boy and acid rain started to wipe frogs up north…and grew up to work in service roles and saw much then too, and it can still be a struggle. It still is as I glimpse the life that is lost experiential, like you do too. There are times I have to work to not dwell in it as the ones I love do not deserve that as a constant expression from me, and I don’t deserve it either. I have grieved long enough to go through all of Kubler Ross’s stages of grief a few times over. Witnessing the desire many people have to not know and to not act, has been a long journey in the face of that. A Greek chap I once knew told me, when I was young, about one of the classic Greek math pioneers who saw his assassins coming to him and remained actively engaged in the equation he was working on until he was killed. I take that as a reminder now. And engage with that process. I am older and my body suffers incredibly in the heat. So it is yet a new day of self awareness and process. Hope to hear you play guitar one day, for myself, as a songwriter, am going under the name of the little kittens and going to have fun recording songs next month. The themes are affirmations of young love, old friends, community, and simple joy and safety. At first I hope to release the music on Chinese language sites only. Best to you, thank you too. Paul Albert
