Everything that You Wanted to Know about Jet Streams but Were Afraid to Ask // Published on Feb 6, 2018
Why does the jet stream exist? How does if form? What controls it’s location and behaviour (latitude, length and amplitude of its waves)? What do zonal and meridional mean? Positive and negative vorticity?
Why are there many streaks of higher velocity within? Why is it becoming more fractured, and why are loops and whirls detaching from it? When we lose Arctic sea ice what will the jet stream become? Will it stabilize to another pattern or become totally chaotic? Will it even exist?
Intimately Understanding Our Jet Streams // Published on Feb 5, 2018
Understanding the intricacies of our jet streams is vital to understanding why weather extremes are increasing in frequency, severity and duration around the planet. Also, why it snowed recently in the Sahara Desert, and why it was above freezing in the dark, cold Arctic and on coastlines in Antarctica. Why Cape Town, South Africa is running out of water, and Paris floods, and why our biosphere is collapsing and why logic tells us that global food supply is likely to be limited in a near-term crisis. Our planet is a planet in crisis, yet folks just don’t get it.
