Watch 50,000 Kilograms of Methane Per Hour, Gush From a Busted Pipe. Infrared footage shows what an L.A. community has been living for nearly two months. Thank you to Harold Hensel of Iowa for the hat tip.

Earthworks, ‘Infrared video making visible the Aliso Canyon leak from Southern California Gas (Sempra) natural gas storage field that threatens the Porter Ranch community in Los Angeles County.’
‘What does a pipe spewing 50,000 kilograms of methane per hour look like? You’d never know, as the highly flammable gas is invisible to the naked eye. But in the northern San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, where a ruptured pipe has been pluming natural gas for nearly two months, residents finally have their chance to see.’

Paul already shared this, but seems an appropriate juncture to share his video again here, for a second time. from his remarkable, nine part Hansen series, here). While at first pass to some, land and methane, and C02 and surface water from my lay perspective (dk) might not seem to directly correlate, its really about dumping and excess, in a big way:

Top Climate Expert: Crisis is Worse Than We Think & Scientists Are Self-Censoring to Downplay Risk, on Amy Goodman, of Democracy Now. Another ht by Harold (15:38 long) // Published on Dec 8, 2015:
‘Ahead of the U.N. climate change summit in Paris, France, more than 180 nations pledged to voluntarily reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but many climate justice groups say far more needs to be done to keep global warming in check. We speak with one of the world’s leading climate scientists who has come to the Paris talks with a shocking message:
‘The climate crisis is more severe than even many scientists have acknowledged. Kevin Anderson is deputy director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and professor of energy and climate change at the University of Manchester in Britain. He has said many scientists are self-censoring their work to downplay the severity of the climate crisis.‘

I just filmed Lord Nicholas Stern with Stuart Scott at COP21 in Paris. He is also at TedTalks, ‘The State of the Climate — and What We Might Do about it‘ (from Sept 2014):
Lord Nicholas Stern was too quick for me to get a selfie with him. I have not even had a chance yet to have my morning coffee. Still half asleep and moving very slowly. Maybe I can catch up with him later.
I did talk with Kevin Anderson from the Tyndall Center and met his colleague Alice Bows-Larkin from the Tyndall on the bus to the COP21 convention center. Will attend a seminar shortly with Anderson and Schellenhuber (sp?) who is a well known European climate scientist. Will be a busy day for sure. I will be speaking on abrupt climate disruption at a press conference in the early evening…
