Climate Matters, Conversation with Paul Beckwith

Beyond Crisis // Published on Dec 4, 2015 (9:33 long)

Paul speaks with Beyond Crisis in Ottawa on abrupt climate change; the earth’s warming creating dramatic loss of sea ice in the Arctic; and the urgent need to act NOW to reduce emissions, cool the Arctic and slow the warming trend. This piece gives a detailed analysis on the risks we face from Arctic warming to the overall climate system.

“We’re an innovative, intelligent species but we’re total idiots on the climate change issue.”

“I think we’re in trouble NOW… The world will wake up one morning and they’ll be no sea ice in the Arctic – the weather will be unrecognizable. Will that wake people up? Do we have to reach that point?”

Paul is a well-known climate science educator, and part-time Geography professor in climatology, oceanography, and environmental issues at the University of Ottawa. For more content from Climate Matters, follow Beyond Crisis through our YouTube channel or on our blog at BeyondCrisisBlog.com’

I think that by now, it should be pretty obvious what we won’t do. After all, Isn’t this COP21? Twenty plus years of opportunity and acceleration towards a global emergency – hasn’t done a thing.

Hoping for a sea change [pun intended] to wake us from our habits and indifference into action is exactly what it is going to take because the world is still being raped by utter idiots.

I hope you keep up your efforts to inform us all. All is lost, I have seen absolutely nothing that indicates that we can belatedly ‘prevent’ the hell that we have unleashed upon ourselves, but that doesn’t mean we should not keep trying.

You must know that solar cells & wind turbines are dependent upon fossil resources for their raw materials, mining, manufacturing, maintenance & repair?
I think they can lower pollution where they are used but where they are being made in China, pollution has reached toxic levels because of weak regulations.
Once OIL is no longer affordable, their days are numbered as our current civilization is sustained by our high consumption of fossil resources, as these decline, our civilization will collapse as we are far into overshoot & cannot sustain a population of over 7 billion without affordable oil.
    We can’t eat electricity.

It’s sure going to come as a shock for the
first world, when it has to start acclimatising
(Pun intended) to third world living
standards. It would be funny if it wasn’t
    so pathetic.

I can just see in the US all of those clueless, stupid fundies down on their knees praying to their “god” of Israel for water, food, cooling rain & getting as usual no help.

There will be state governors also asking for mass prayer for forgiveness from that same imaginary “god” of Israel, those stupid fools in the thousands of years they have been praying to one “god” after another should have learned by now that there ARE NO GODS!
It’s not only just pathetic, it’s sickeningly sad that we are so DAM STUPID to believe such nonsense & those beliefs have causes us to 1. Not stop breeding like rats & 2. To refuse to believe the science when it’s been warning us for generations the danger we face from overpopulation, then oil shortages & now climate change.
What saddens me is not our eminent extinction but all the other amazing living things we are taking down with us. There are billions of dead planets out there, there was no need for us to kill this planet to add it to all those other dead ones. This planet is unique, the only planet known to have life & we, one species out of billions are killing it for PROFIT!

Minor nitpick. I do think Islamic State terror is not something we should so easily dismiss. But clearly global warming has the potential to wipe out vast swaths of humanity. Regarding the latter, I think Americans are somewhere between disdain and apathy. However, once it becomes clear to them just what Global Warming means, not just C02, but the amplifying effects of CH4, I think they will go binary from apathy to panic.

I believe what you said made a bunch of sense. However, what about this? suppose you were to create a awesome post title? I am not saying your content is not solid., however what if you added a post title that grabbed folk’s attention?

I mean Climate Matters, Conversation with Paul Beckwith | Paul Beckwith, Climate System Scientist is a little boring. You could peek at Yahoo’s home page and see how they create article headlines to grab viewers interested.

You might add a video or a pic or two to grab people excited about what you’ve got to say. Just my opinion, it could make your posts a little livelier.
